Data Science is a thriving field in Bavaria with a strong emphasis on research and innovation. The state boasts several leading academic institutions that specialize in Data Science, such as the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU). The Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ) in Garching near Munich is an internationally leading player in the field, too, providing state-of-the-art computing resources as well as research support to various data-driven projects. In the recent past, many fruitful collaborations between academia and industry in Bavaria have contributed to the state´s reputation as a leader in data science, attracting international talents and innovative companies to Bavaria.

Via the Hightech Agenda Bavaria, the Bavarian State Government has especially acknowledged the technological progress in data science in the Wuerzburg area.
