Hightech Agenda Bavaria

In 2019 and 2020, the Bavarian State Government launched a technology offensive unique in Europe, providing funds worth 3.5 billion EUR for cutting-edge research, academic education, and innovation. Bavarian universities have been strengthened with 1,000 new professorships, leading to offer 13,000 new study places. Extra funding has been allocated to non-university research institutions located in the Free State. The aim of the Hightech Agenda Bavaria is to promote the development of groundbreaking technologies and putting them into practice, with focus on artificial intelligence (AI), additive manufacturing, life sciences, microelectronics, 6G, quantum technology, aerospace and cleantech.

Vital part of the Hightech Agenda Bavaria is the endowment of 100 new AI professorships for Bavarian universities and large funds for non-university research institutes to either extend their already existing AI units or even founding of new institutes such as e.g., the Fraunhofer Institute for Cognitive Systems IKS in Munich.

The Bavarian AI Council and the Bavarian AI Agency have both been founded through the Hightech Agenda Bavaria.
