New addition to the Bavarian AI Council: Welcome Prof. Björn Ommer

The Bavarian State Government and the AI Council have worked together successfully over the past three years. The council members were therefore reappointed for five years and are expected to continue their voluntary work with full commitment. Prof. Björn Ommer, ELLIS Fellow and Professor of the Hightech Agenda, was appointed as a new member.

Björn Ommer caused an international sensation in 2022 with the development of the diffusion model that serves as the basis for Generative AI Stable Diffusion. This makes him one of the top international scientists in the field of artificial intelligence.

Björn Ommer has held the Chair of AI for Computer Vision and Digital Humanities/the Arts at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) since 2021. His expertise strengthens the Bavarian AI Council and thus makes a decisive contribution to Bavaria as a high-tech location.

It is with great pleasure that we welcome Professor Björn Ommer to the Bavarian AI Council. With him, we have a renowned scientist and innovative entrepreneur in our ranks who has revolutionized image generation through artificial intelligence. Together, we will continue to work on making trustworthy and human-centered AI from Bavaria shine internationally.

The Bavarian AI Council was appointed by the Bavarian State Government in 2020 to advise it on AI issues and provide important impetus for the further development of Bavarian AI activities. Its 21 members are outstanding personalities from Bavarian universities, non-university research institutions and companies. In addition to their consulting activities, they are introducing the Free State of Bavaria internationally as a trend-setting AI location.
