How AI is turning structural change into a success story: Congratulations on three years of the Augsburg AI Production Network!

Agile, fast and successful – this is how Bavaria’s Minister President Dr. Markus Söder and Minister of State Markus Blume described the development of the Augsburg AI Production Network, which was founded in 2021.

The Hightech Agenda Bayern provided the decisive impetus – but the close exchange between the six participating organizations seems to be the key to success. University of Augsburg, the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences, the Fraunhofer IGCV, the DLR Institute of Structures and Design, the City of Augsburg and Bayern Innovativ GmbH have convinced around 600 regional companies to use this network for their concerns relating to AI in production.

Rapid implementation of the idea of structural change with future potential

In just three years, the Augsburg AI Production Network has developed into a lively interdisciplinary network that combines cutting-edge research with the centuries-old tradition of production in Bavarian Swabia. This resulted in 133 research projects and even 7 successful start-ups. With the idea of finding quick paths from research to commercial application, the production network has taken on a model role for Bavaria – in this way, the region’s leading position in the manufacturing industry can be maintained or even expanded.

Important task: AI training for trainees, specialists and managers

With the Education 4.0 platform for SMEs, the AI Production Network has also seized the opportunity to make AI understandable for people in their working environment. Company employees are offered suitable specialist training here, and a special AI certificate has even been developed for trainees in collaboration with the Swabian Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

Marketplace for ideas

The “marketplace” of the AI production network, Hall 43 in Augsburg, was well attended at the ceremony on April 24 and offered a wide range of impulses with various workshops, demonstrations and specialist presentations. The guests experienced how interdisciplinary exchange and knowledge transfer are practiced here on a daily basis.
