TUM GNI Symposium Expo: AI for the built world

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) hosted the Georg Nemetschek Institute Symposium Expo on Artificial Intelligence for the Built World in Garching from September 10 to 12. This forward-looking event brought together experts from science, industry and innovative start-ups to discuss the transformation brought about by AI in architecture and construction.

On the first evening, Dr. Michael Klimke, CEO of the Bavarian AI Agency, opened the industry session on “AI at Work” with an introduction to the Bavarian AI ecosystem and presented the baiosphere.

In the various sessions and keynote speeches, guests had the opportunity to gain in-depth insights into different application areas of AI in the construction industry. Experts from industry and research presented innovative solutions and discussed the challenges of using AI in planning and construction. The presentation on “Creating value with AI: How to professionally apply AI” by Dr. Andreas Liebl, a permanent guest of the Bavarian AI Council and Managing Director of the appliedAI Initiative and the appliedAI Institute for Europe, was particularly illustrative.

Another highlight of the event was the presentation of the Best Start-Up Award, sponsored by baiosphere. Andreas Preißer, Team Leader Business Relations, presented this award to Emidat. The start-up uses AI to make the construction process more climate-friendly. The award gives Emidat a one-off pitch in front of the Bavarian AI Council and also includes five tickets for the next baiosphere Conference 2025.
