AI Act for Beginners: Risk Classes, Roles, and AI Agents – 09.11.2026

As part of the Bavarian AI Innovation Accelerator, appliedAI offers free and practical learning paths. The training supports companies, startups, and public institutions in building AI competencies, understanding regulatory requirements of the EU AI Act, and implementing them effectively.

Understand concisely why and how the EU AI Act regulates AI – from risk classes and different roles to AI agents.

This training offers a compact and practical introduction to the EU AI Act – without any legal knowledge. You will learn why AI is regulated within the EU and the risks the AI Act addresses. You will learn about the risk-based approach and the four risk classes through concrete examples. Furthermore, you will learn which roles the AI Act distinguishes – such as providers, operators, or private use – and why different obligations arise from them.

Current developments such as AI agents are also put into context: You will learn how they are viewed from a regulatory perspective and what requirements may arise from this. Additionally, you will learn the specifics of General-Purpose AI Models (GPAI). This provides you with a solid foundation for further training on the assessment and implementation of the EU AI Act.

Learning Objectives

  • You explain why and how the EU regulates AI and understand the risk-based approach and the logic of product safety.

  • You distinguish the four risk classes and can roughly categorize AI applications, including AI agents, using practical examples.

  • You distinguish the various roles in the EU AI Act (provider, operator, private use) and understand why the respective role determines the regulatory duties.

Prerequisites: No prior knowledge of the EU AI Act required.
