Projects and Focus Areas of the AI Council

The Bavarian AI Council is a key player in the design and implementation of AI initiatives in the Free State of Bavaria. It initiates groundbreaking projects, advises the state government on strategic decisions, and drives the development of innovative technologies. Some of the most significant projects include:

  • Blue Swan: Bayern's proposal for an AI Gigafactory of the EU. It includes the development of AI infrastructure and strategic consulting for large-scale data centers to establish Bayern as a leading location for trustworthy AI and strengthen European digital sovereignty.

  • Bavarian AI Foundation Model Initiative: The goal is to develop a multimodal AI base model according to European standards, which strengthens the collaboration between research and industry in the Free State.

  • Bavarian Cloud for Health Research: Establishment of an infrastructure that enables the secure and data protection-compliant use of data for medical AI research. The platform promotes innovative approaches to improve diagnoses and treatments through the use of advanced AI technologies.

  • BIOSPHERE MONITOR: Strategic project to promote AI development in Bavaria in cooperation with the Bavarian AI Agency. It prioritizes thematic areas and develops visions and action plans to establish Bavaria as a leading European ecosystem for AI.

  • European AI Act & Regulatory Issues: Expert opinions and workshops on the European AI Regulation (AI Act).

  • BIOSPHERE x SSC: This platform promotes interdisciplinary networking. Workshops and events take place in a monastic atmosphere at the Speinshart Scientific Center for AI and SuperTech, encouraging the exchange of creative ideas and innovative approaches.

In addition, individual members of the AI Council regularly comment on current developments in Artificial Intelligence and contribute to socio-political debates.
