The Munich start-up SEAL Robotics is working on robotic solutions for container logistics in ports. The goal is to make manual and safety-critical work steps in so-called terminal operations more efficient and safer.
The focus is particularly on the so-called "lashing" - securing containers with twistlocks and pins during transport. These tasks are often carried out by employees directly under container cranes and are considered physically demanding as well as potentially dangerous.
SEAL Robotics is developing automated systems that can be integrated into existing port infrastructures. The particular challenges lie in the harsh outdoor conditions and the complex processes of modern container terminals.
The company originated from the environment of the Munich Institute of Robotics and Machine Intelligence (MIRMI) of TUM. Initial prototypes were developed and tested in cooperation with MIRMI laboratories.
In the long term, SEAL Robotics aims to establish itself as a technology partner for automated port processes and contribute to the digitalization of global logistics.
