With the call for proposals DIGITAL-JU-CHIPS-2026-AI-GfP the European Union is investing in the expansion of a sovereign European AI infrastructure. In the context of the Chips Joint Undertaking (Chips JU), €70 million is available for the establishment of a joint evaluation and deployment platform for European AI chips and AI computing systems.
The aim of the call is to test European AI hardware using standardized workloads and benchmarks, to assess its performance, and to enable first pilot installations in European data centers. The results are intended to serve as a basis for procurement decisions and to accelerate the deployment of powerful European AI systems.
The call for proposals is aimed at international consortia from industry, research, and other actors in the European AI ecosystem. In particular, projects that contribute to the integration, optimization, and practical introduction of European AI computing solutions and strengthen Europe's technological sovereignty in high-performance computing and AI are supported.
The call for proposals was opened on July 7, 2026. Project applications can be submitted until September 23, 2026 . To prepare for this, the Chips Joint Undertaking is also organizing an information event where the goals, framework conditions, and cooperation opportunities of the call will be presented.
For Bavarian companies, research institutions, and universities, the call opens up the opportunity to participate in the development of the next generation of European AI hardware and computing infrastructure, and to jointly expand Europe's competitiveness in the field of artificial intelligence.
