How can young people be prepared for a working world rapidly transformed by artificial intelligence (AI)? This question was at the core of the training series “Let’s talk about AI,” which concluded with a final event at the University of Augsburg.
Around 80 teachers from across Bavaria explored real-world AI applications and gained insights for modern, future-oriented teaching. A key focus was the exchange between schools, industry, and academia—an essential element for building sustainable AI competencies.
Experiencing and teaching AI in practice
In addition to expert input on topics such as cybersecurity, participants engaged with AI through interactive formats. Activities included an AI escape game, learning modules on machine learning and computer vision, and guided experiences in the “Halle 43” AI lab environment. These hands-on approaches aimed to reduce barriers and provide concrete ideas for classroom integration.
Innovative educational initiatives, such as an AI certification program for vocational trainees, further highlight how applied AI education is being implemented in Bavaria.
The initiative underscores the critical role of schools in preparing students for digital transformation. Teachers act as key multipliers, enabling early integration of AI topics into education and equipping students with relevant future skills.
Collaboration as a success factor
A defining element of the program is the close collaboration with companies and research institutions. Participating organizations—including partners from initiatives such as NextGen4Bavaria and KI-Transfer Plus—contribute real-world use cases and support the transfer of knowledge into practice.
The training series demonstrates that building AI skills starts in the education system—and thrives on strong collaboration between education, industry, and research.
