Last week took place at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities a two-day intensive exchange on the future of Artificial Intelligence in medicine took place. The Bavarian Conference on AI in Medicine brought together researchers, clinics, and companies from all over Bavaria - with inspiring keynotes including: Eric Topol, Mihaela van der Schaar, Fabian Theis and Islem Rekik.

In his keynote, Prof. Topol showed how Artificial Intelligence fundamentally changes our understanding of medicine, research, and prevention. He explained how data-driven technologies can make diagnoses and therapies more precise and improve our health and lifespan - while also highlighting the opportunities and challenges associated with the medicine of tomorrow.

"Scientific progress arises in networks, not through individuals." This sentence by Mihaela van der Schaar perfectly captures the spirit of the conference: Real innovation requires strong collaborations between research, industry, and institutions.

In an accompanying SWOT analysis, the BAIOSPHERE was examined in detail:

  • Strengths: scientific excellence, lived collaboration, strong industrial partnerships, as well as the Hightech Agenda Bayern, which creates excellent conditions for research and innovation.

  • Challenges: complex structures and lengthy processes that slow down the transfer to application.

  • Opportunities: faster cooperation, clear framework conditions, and better start-up support.
