Fall 2026 TPC Hackathon
The hackathon is hosted by the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ) and is part of the activities of the Trillion Parameter Consortium (TPC), which promotes open, cooperative research for the development and application of very large AI models for science. The event is aimed at computer scientists and researchers from academia and industry, including internationally. The topic is relevant because training and scaling large AI models require powerful supercomputers and optimized software.

Over three days, participants work practically on building the first prototypes of their ideas or porting, accelerating, and optimizing existing AI applications for various CPU and GPU architectures. Each team is paired with an experienced mentor to make concrete progress with targeted use of programming models, libraries, and optimization tools. In parallel breakout groups, team leaders contribute their own projects; groups come together at times for joint work and discussions.

The hackathon takes place from September 9 to 11, 2026, in Garching near Munich and is part of EuroTPC, the European coordination structure of the consortium, which connects leading computing centers, AI factories, and research institutions. Participation is by application: registration does not guarantee a spot, as submissions are reviewed. The call for leading a breakout group runs until July 20, 2026, and registration for participation is open until August 24, 2026.
