Get ready for an insightful evening with the Munich Women in AI & Robotics Community. Engaging talk and networking await!
Welcome to the September Edition of our Women in AI & Robotics Community Meetup in Munich! We are delighted to join forces with the Munich Center for Machine Learning (MCML) this month!
Join us for an exciting talk held by Anne Köpken from the German Aerospace Center around the Surface Avatar Project led by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the European Space Agency (ESA).
The Surface Avatar Project aims to explore the potential for remotely piloted robots from a space station in orbit, particularly for Mars exploration and habitat establishment. It tackles the challenges of hazardous environments, communication delays, and distance.
To overcome this, the project envisions teleoperating Earth robots from the International Space Station (ISS). The ISS serves as a platform to command a diverse robotic team on Earth, including the DLR humanoid robot Rollin' Justin, Robotic Lander System, and ESA Interact rover. This approach was recently demonstrated by a NASA astronaut, who controlled these robots from the ISS to DLR in Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich.
