Munich AI Day: MCML brings international AI research to Bavaria

As one of six national AI competence centers and the centerpiece of the Bavarian state government’s AI strategy, the Munich Center for Machine Learning (MCML) has made remarkable progress in just two years: Around 60 Principal Investigators, 270 Junior Members and more than 1,000 publications prove that the combined strength of Munich’s universities of excellence TUM and LMU is advancing the theoretical foundations of machine learning and AI.

The list of prominent speakers at the inaugural Munich AI Day last Thursday reflected the MCML’s strong connections to top international institutions, researchers and business leaders.

Larissa Holzki from Handelsblatt moderated the panel discussion on the future of AI with the Bavarian Minister of Science Markus Blume, Tina Klüwer from the BMBF, the permanent guest in the Bavarian AI Council Andreas Liebl from appliedAI, Barbara Plank from the MCML and the MCML Director Daniel Cremers. This was followed by further exciting contributions on AI in medicine and healthcare, deep learning, language models and neural networks.

Jo-Anna Küster, Tamara Tomasevic and Laura Janßen were delighted to present baiosphere right next to the scientific poster session of the young researchers. We congratulate the MCML on the all-round success of the first MCML Summit and look forward to further successes.
